In August 2003 Joinset developed the technology to enable mobile phones to measure temperature and to display it. This development was made to follow the trend of adding value to mobile phones, which become more and more part of the individual life style of its owners. These mobile phone users become more and more ambitious to their mobile phone and its functionality. So Joinset took the hat to optimize the given tools to meet the more and more increasing restrictions and requirements to implement a successful, usable function to mobile phones.

As improvement to the invention of the temperature sensing and displaying technology for mobile Phones, Joinset, developed a new JoinTherm™ System (pat. pending) with outstanding characteristics, which make it the perfect fit to realize the temperature measurement in any new mobile phone, as easy and accurate as to imagine.

The new JoinTherm™ System for mobile phone temperature sensing, consists of 3 key parameters:
1. The Sensor Unit is only 0,5mm thick, enabling it to fastest response times. The working temperature range is between -50°C and 125°C. But the most impressive parameter is its excellent standard accuracy of ±0,18°C at 25°C. This is absolutely the same tolerance in temperature accuracy, as it is allowed for medical thermometers, used as a standard in modern hospitals.

2. The Sensor Unit Position. To measure the environmental air temperature, the sensor must be exposed to it. Joinset’s technology applies the sensor unit directly under the speaker hole in the mobile phone housing. Actual the speaker hole is the largest permanent opening in mobile phone housings, allowing direct environmental contact to a device inside the housing. Environmental air floods around the JoinTherm™ sensor unit, without any influencing barrier between sensor unit and environment. The so measured temperature will absolutely be the environmental air temperature. The JoinTherm™ sensor unit is not influenced by moist and dust, reaching it through the hole. It is possible to implement this technology of temperature sensing also to devices, designed for outdoor activities and to withstand hardest conditions, by using Joinset’s JoinTherm™ System.
3. Joinset’s Soft- and Hardware Technology, combined with the JoinTherm™ sensor unit will guarantee that the accurate environmental temperature is displayed with shortest delay, in highest accuracy, on the phones display. This is an anticipation of the fast change of environmental conditions, taking place in example, if someone moves from inside a house to the out side, in cold winter times.

Temperature measurement estimative becomes a standard function in next generation mobile phones and electronically devices. Then mobile phones, missing the JoinTherm™ System, might not meet fully the market demands and therefore might also not meet the average requirements for successful market penetration.

In our time the mobile phone is not only a means of communication. It has become more and more a life style product. Realizing this development, the mobile phone industry is inventing new gadgets for every new model series, to offer more usability and to win an advantage in front of the competitors. So the series of mobile phones have diversified on one hand to more entertainment and on the other hand to more business based devices.
Joinset Co., Ltd., developed a technology, based on using the functionality of standard components in mobile phones, to add more value into it. It does not matter, whether the mobile phone series is a business or entertainment oriented one. Problem less the new functionality fits to every mobile phone series.
The new added function is measuring as well the internal temperature of the battery pack, as well as the environmental temperature. For this technology Joinset applied for patent which is pending.
By using, in example, the temperature sensor, controlling the battery pack and the standard CPU, it is possible to display the environmental temperature on the mobile phone. The CPU will, in a logical operation, take and calculate the temperature relation between the location of the used temperature control unit and the external, environmental temperature, convert the data and display the result on the phone display. Only one of the temperature sensors, controlling the battery pack, the phone body temperature, or the LCD temperature, has to be used, to achieve this thermometer functionality. No additional temperature control element has to be applied to the phone. The used measurement element works easily and reliable in a double function, controlled by the CPU.
No additional investment into components, further postponing the ROI of the model series, is necessary. All needed components, to display the external, environmental temperature on the phone display, are applied as standard components into the mobile phone. Only the CPU needs a bit of updating, which is easily done.
For the temperature sensor it is not important, whether a Thermistor or Temperature IC is used, Joinset’s technology fits easily to both applications.
Future mobile phones will offer more real usability, by adding the thermometer functionality to it, as added value.

Beneath measuring the environmental temperature, it is possible to measure also selected, external temperature regions, like the body temperature, in example testing for a fever.
To do so, the mobile phone has to be pressed for around 15 – 20 seconds, with the battery pack, or where the used temperature sensor is located, onto the skin, or other to be measured surface and the temperature will be displayed on the phone.

This application method, using the battery pack-, body- or LCD-Temperature Control Unit, makes the use of the “Mobile Phone Thermometer” easy and safe. The usable temperature range and usable environment is restricted only by the mobile phones usage restrictions. This wide range of usability will make the added value of measuring temperature not only a seasonal one, but a lasting useful function.

In our time the mobile use of electronical entertainment and communication devices like MP3 Players and mobile phones, has become common use. These devices express the modern life style of its user. So continuous, exchangeable use of any kind of these devices is possible at any place of public or private life and the amount of sold devices is still increasing. The use of hand free kits with Ear Plugs for Mobile Phones is a trend not only to prevent from accidents in the car traffic and MP3 Players need Ear Plugs essentially.
But using Ear Plugs, still has some hidden risks, which nearly nobody seems to care about. Also the designers and manufacturers of these devices seem not to care about the risk of exposing human cells to artificial magnetic fields.

There is a strong magnetic field, emitted continuously from the permanent magnet, used in the ear plug speaker or acoustic receiver system, beaming through our ear and brain, every time an user takes ear plugs.

How strong a magnetic field of an averaged ear plug is, can easily be tested by trying to attach a metal paper clip to it. In the most cases it will attach easily and strong to the plug.
It is not yet cleared whether this exposure of our brain and ear system to the magnetic field of ear plugs has any influence to it, but is definitely not clear that it is without any risk to human health. As the magnetic field emitted by the speaker and receiver system is not natural, but a technical creation, the probability is high, that some long term damage could appear to human beings, exposed to it by continuous use of ear plugs. Further the phenomenon of “electro smog” is given as a fact and the magnetic field, emitted by the ear plug is something alike.
To prevent users of ear plugs from possibly occurring long term damages, caused by magnetic field exposures, Joinset developed the BrainKeeper™ for Ear Plug Sets.
BrainKeeper™ consists of special developed materials, characterized by a high permeability.
The materials together with the sophisticated design of the BrainKeeper™, definitely reduce the intensity of the emitted magnetic field from ear plugs. It is applied directly at the front end of the ear plug, on the inner side of the cap and has, caused by the design, no influence on the acoustic quality of the ear plug.
